eBay Still Struggling with UK Gun Smuggling
    11.05.04 (7:07 pm)
In November 2003, eBay was accused of ignoring a potential gun smuggling operation in which prohibited weapons purchased on eBay were being sent into the UK from abroad. In January 2004, it was discovered that eBay UK was being used to sell stun guns -- capable of temporarily disabling victims by delivering massive electric shocks. It was noted that between November 1 and November 4, 2004, several handguns have sold on eBay UK -- despite the fact that sellers are not allowed to sell such items. Sellers simply list an empty box for sale then toss the handgun in for free.

On November 11, eBay will meet with Steve McCabe, member for Birmingham Hall Green, to discuss how to address the issue.

eBay Not Exempt From German Rules
    11.05.04 (7:00 am)
Germany doesn't care who Meg Whitman or eBay is, the rules governing transactions between professional sellers and consumers are the same: a consumer can return a product without a reason.

In response, eBay believes this will not have any long-term affects on eBay's development in the German market. All professional sellers who use eBay for e-commerce must allow a 14-day cancellation period. For those private sellers, nothing changes. They have never had to grant a return period.

    Overstock.com Auctions Announces $50,000 Winner
    11.02.04 (5:38 pm)
Overstock Auctions (NASDAQ: OSTK) announced the winner of its $50,000 auction network contest: Brandon Dupsky, president of Sell2All, Inc., a company that has been selling on eBay for more than six years. Dupsky, with the aid of fifteen Sell2All employees, built a personal and business auction network of 14,500 people on Overstock Auctions

“We worked as a team and made it our mission to win,” said Dupsky. “We were pleasantly surprised to see how many people were open to joining our network, which we’ve discovered is the network’s greatest value – members’ willingness to dive in and participate. Aside from 14,000 new friendships, we also have invaluable information in marketing our services to new buyers.”

Sell2All buys everything from surplus inventory and customer returns from manufacturers, distributors and retailers to individuals simply cleaning out their garage of unwanted items and sells them through online auction sites like Overstock Auctions.

The Overstock Auctions contest, which ran from the site’s launch on September 24 through October 31, offered $50,000 as a challenge to registered users to build the biggest auction network.

The www and Your Google Pagerank
    by Genia V. Stevens
I sold a text link to one of my advertising clients on TheAuctionBoard's main page. My auction ad stated that my website's main page had a Google pagerank (PR) of 6. After the client was informed that his link had been placed, he visited my website to verify the placement, and responded with this:

When looking at your website it is showing me a 0 PR. Can you explain this or clarify the error?
